Red Light Therapy

What is it good for?

Red Light Therapy

Red Light Therapy (RLT), is a form of light therapy that helps heal skin, muscle tissue, joints as well as other parts of the body.

It exposes the body to high-powered red and/or near-infrared light. This Infrared light produces a type of energy that your eyes can’t see, but your body can sense as heat. Red light is very similar to infrared light with the difference that your eyes can see it.

Other terms used for RLT include Low-level laser therapy (LLLT), low-power laser therapy (LPLT), and lastly photobiomodulation (PBM).

Red Light Therapy has a wide range of applications but here at BodyTherapy.Health we'll be using both red and infrared light at the same time. The list to the right gives you an example of what we can focus on.

Red light is visible and is most effective for use on the surface of the skin. Red light occupies the “long end” of the visible spectrum with wavelengths of 630nm-700nm. Infrared light is invisible and is effective for use on the surface of the skin and penetration of about 1.5 inches into the body.

If you want to know what happens on a more cellular level: The Mitocondria, the 'powerhouse of the cell' soaks up the light and makes even more energy - these cells convert the air we breathe and food we eat into energy that our cells then use to grow, divide and function.

Red Light Therapy is considered a safe form of therapy but if you're not sure or are taking any photosensitising drugs then we do recommend you contact your health provider.
